(WASHINGTON, DC) Join the Healthy DC & Me Leadership Coalition, as they celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the launch of their “Capital City Emergency “Level II” Trauma & Wellness Center project, with a “BLOW THE WHISTLE” Prayer Breakfast & Press Conference featuring “Keynote” speakers, the Honorable Rev. Ronald Wright of Justice Seekers Texas, and the Dialysis Activist Association, (DAA), along with the National Action Network. The Coalition is asking DC citizens, and community “stakeholders” to join them in “blowing the whistle” on corporate and governmental enslavement practices and policies that are alarmingly keeping citizens in the Nation’s Capital and across the nation at risk of death, racial disparities, discriminatory health, housing, & economic injustices, while they continue to profit off from deceptive, and “protected” practices that must end!

On June 18, 2021, President Joseph Biden signed into law, the “Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, S 475. His Proclamation states that “On Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to the work of equity, equality, and justice”.

Today in the Nation’s Capital, it is the observations of the Healthy DC & Me Leadership Coalition, that the elected Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with her governing elected body, and members of the DC Council, as well as her appointed leadership have fallen short of keeping the commitments, exclaimed in President Biden’s 2021 Juneteenth Day Proclamation. The overwhelming instances of publicly documented, fraudulent, and negligent practices of DC’s governing body, continue to undermine the “calls for justice”, and “accountability”, in communities across the District, where housing instability, and poverty rates have negatively impacted voter engagement, and citizen resolve. In the 2022 DC general elections less than half of registered voters participated.

Recently, while testifying before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Mayor Bowser irresponsibly, and inexplicably stated that the Nation’s Capital has only 221 homeless individuals living on the street. This is a “ridiculous” claim that many advocates such as the Healthy DC & Me Leadership Coalition attribute to the Mayor, and DC elected officials’ “tone deaf” and “disconnected” patterns of governing on matters involving the well-being of the community. The District has seen an increase in its Jan. 2023 homeless figure of 4,400, by at least 12% this year. Meanwhile, the economic divide has ballooned in comparison to White households in DC having 81 times the wealth of Black households, and 62% of DC businesses being White owned, with a mere 18% being owned by Blacks. Equity, equality, and justice for marginalized families living in the Nation’s Capital seem to only serve as “sound bites” for the Mayor, her governing body of elected officials, and Council members who remain “void” of the fulfillment of President Biden’s 2021 Proclamation of Juneteenth Day. DC’s governing body remains reactionary to the growing, health, wellness, housing, & economic decline of citizens living in the Nation’s Capital. Today we join with leaders from across the nation calling for medical & economic slavery practices to end!

Low-income Black and marginalized families residing in the District of Columbia currently live with visible and heavily documented health inequities, homelessness, and an unacceptable economic divide. As District of Columbia citizens they are living with burgeoning depression / anxiety, increased mortality rates, rampant gun violence which remains to be a public health crisis, community-centric approaches to value-based, chronic disease management, lack of insurance, gentrification, substance use abuse, mental illness, housing code violations, and lack of enforcement of the laws and policies which continues to shamefully “expose” the brutal inhumanity & gross incompetence that District citizens are repeatedly facing in the local handling of federal as well as state housing, & healthcare monies. Enough is enough! Liberation must come in the form of competent leaders with motivated, & “healthy” intentions to properly oversee and change the current paradigm. This Juneteenth we’re asking you to join us as we “blow the whistle” for “Freedom, & Justice”! For more info: Juneteenth Prayer Breakfast and Press Conference: www.mitv.fyi/dialysis

“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman because it often results in physical death.”

“I see no alternative to direct action and creative nonviolence to raise the conscience of the nation.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
